Netherlands stocks lower at close of trade; AEX down 3.32%

Netherlands stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX lost 3.32% to hit a new 52-week low.

The best performers of the session on the AEX were Gemalto (AS:GTO), which fell 0.20% or 0.10 points to trade at 50.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Philips Lighting NV (AS:LIGHT) fell 1.20% or 0.26 points to end at 21.34 and Unilever NV DRC (AS:UNc) was down 1.36% or 0.67 points to 48.16 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 5.86% or 1.180 points to trade at 18.960 at the close. Altice NV (AS:ATCA) declined 5.74% or 0.13 points to end at 2.12 and Aegon NV (AS:AEGN) was down 5.40% or 0.257 points to 4.505.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange by 116 to 11 and 8 ended unchanged.

Shares in ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.86% or 1.180 to 18.960. Shares in Aegon NV (AS:AEGN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.40% or 0.257 to 4.505.

The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 28.26% to 22.02 a new 6-months high.

Crude oil for January delivery was down 3.35% or 1.77 to $51.12 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 3.48% or 2.14 to hit $59.42 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.28% or 3.45 to trade at $1246.05 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was up 0.37% to 1.1386, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8901.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 96.685.
